Canoas will host the 4th edition of the Rio Grande do Sul LGBTQIA+ Volleyball Superliga, a sporting event that aims to promote the affirmation, sustainability and visibility of the LGBTQIA+ population throughout the region. The competition will take place at the Municipal Olympic Center, located in the Igara neighborhood, next Sunday (23). Seven teams will participate in the disputes, starting from 9am.
The event is organized by the local team Battel Force Vôlei, and has the support of the Municipal Secretary of Sport and Leisure (SMEL) and the Coordination of Diversity and Traditional Communities. The initiative seeks to use sport as a tool to combat prejudice and hate crimes directed at the LGBTQIA+ community.
Battel Force president Jorge Martins points out that the Volleyball Super League is an opportunity to represent this population and try to reduce the risk of violence faced by the most vulnerable people. The event also demonstrates that Canoas is at the forefront of important actions on behalf of the LGBTQIA+ community.
It is important to point out that, unlike previous editions, the organizing team Battel Force Vôlei de Canoas will not participate in the games. The teams that will be present in the competition are: Fireballs (Porto Alegre), Avalon (Porto Alegre), Eagles (Ijuí), Green Vôlei (Porto Alegre), Thunders (Novo Hamburgo), Sparks (Porto Alegre) and Vallebals (Porto Alegre).
The event promises to be an opportunity to socialize and celebrate diversity, using sport as a means of strengthening and including the LGBTQIA+ community in society.
