95% growth compared to 2022
Brazil has established itself as the largest exporter of poultry genetics in Latin America, according to data from the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). Between January and June 2023, the country shipped 14,156 thousand tons of day-old chicks and fertile eggs to different markets, an increase of 95% compared to the same period in 2022, when 7,274 thousand tons were sold.
Revenue from exports also grew significantly, reaching US$ 129.425 million in the first half of this year, a 61% jump compared to the US$ 80.543 million recorded in the first six months of last year.
The sector’s performance was driven by strong demand from Latin American countries, especially Mexico, which was the main destination for Brazilian poultry genetics. The country imported 8,912 thousand tons in the first half of 2023, a volume 260% higher than that purchased in the same period of 2022. Other markets that stood out were Peru, with 1,352 thousand tons (+2099%), and Paraguay, with 1,406 thousand tons (+6%).
Recognized quality and biosecurity
For the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin, the growth in poultry genetics exports reflects the confidence of importers in the quality and biosecurity of Brazilian poultry. “There has been a change in the demand for poultry genetics products in Brazil, which have now gained greater relevance in Latin American nations. The sharp rise is proof of the importers’ confidence in the quality and biosecurity of poultry farming in Brazil,” he said.
Poultry genetics is a strategic segment for the development of production and consumption of chicken meat in the world. The genetic material exported by Brazil is used to improve the productive and sanitary performance of poultry in importing countries, helping to increase the supply and quality of animal protein.
In 2022, Brazil exported US$ 178.8 million in poultry genetics, a growth of 21% compared to 2021. The country is considered one of the world leaders in poultry genetics, with companies that invest in research and innovation to offer differentiated and competitive products.
