A tribute to friend and sport
He was only 18 years old, but he was already an award-winning and admired skater. Allysson Nascimento, better known as Pastrana, died in 2018 after suffering a serious accident during the Skate Downhill World Championship in Rio de Janeiro. His departure left a void in the hearts of his friends and family, especially Melissa Brogni, who shared his passion for the sport.
Melissa, who is a film director and downhill skater, promised to make a video to honor Pastrana, but was unable to complete it in time. Now, she has fulfilled her wish in the form of art: the short film Pastrana, which was released on the 6th at Casa das Artes, in Novo Hamburgo.
The film, which is 15 minutes long, is a co-production of Okna Produções and the Novo Hamburgo City Hall, through Novo Hamburgo Polo Audiovisual. He was contemplated in the public notice for Promotion of Audiovisual Production, line of Regional Coinvestments of the Audiovisual Sectorial Fund, BRDE and Ancine.
Pastrana is a documentary that rescues the memories, images and conversations experienced by Melissa and her friend. She revisits the places where they grew up and practiced skateboarding, in Novo Hamburgo, the director’s hometown and where Pastrana lived for a while. She also talks with Pastrana’s family and friends, who share their stories and feelings.
The film shows how Melissa faced grief over the sudden loss of Pastrana and how she found the strength to start the sport again. She relies on the inherent presence of her friend, who helps her to fill in the silence left and to understand time.
Pastrana is a film that celebrates the life and legacy of a skateboarder who left too soon but left his mark on the world. It is also a way for Melissa to express her love and gratitude for having known Pastrana and for having lived special moments with her.
The short film will be entered in international and national festivals, as well as negotiated with TV channels and platforms.
