Moment of Faith and Devotion
The city of São Leopoldo witnessed last Sunday, July 9th, the grandiose 17th edition of the Pilgrimage of Padre Reus, a religious event that attracted the participation of thousands of faithful. The traditional procession began in front of the Igreja Matriz, in the center of the city, where devotees gathered for a brief ceremony. The ceremony was attended by Fr. Raimundo Nonato Resende, parish priest of the Sanctuary, of the São Leopoldo Fest court and of the Army band, who enchanted the audience with an exciting musical performance.
Support from authorities and active community participation
Under the protection of the Military Brigade, the Barracks and the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM), the faithful followed in procession to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Sanctuary, following a journey full of faith and devotion. Throughout the journey, GCM offered water and accompanied the group, ensuring everyone’s safety and well-being. In addition, around 200 cyclists from Ciclosinos also joined the pilgrimage, demonstrating their devotion to Padre Reus.
Moment of gratitude and plans for the future
Father Raimundo Nonato Resende, parish priest of the Sanctuary, expressed his gratitude for the success of the event and for the people involved in the organization. In his own words, he highlighted: “Words fail me to describe this moment after Fr. Reus, exceeded all expectations. We owe this to our commitment as a team. I would like to thank all the leaders of the sanctuary and this partnership with our city hall and its secretariats who collaborated and made efforts to bring about this great moment of faith in our city. We already have some innovation ideas for next year, especially as it is a special year. We are celebrating 200 years of immigration, and among these immigrants we have Fr. Reus, who came here and became a real Leopoldian”.
Recognition and partnership
The head of Sedettec, Juliano Maciel, congratulated Father Resende for his dedication in organizing the pilgrimage and reinforced the City Hall’s support for next year’s edition. According to Maciel, the 17th edition of the Pilgrimage of Padre Reus was marked by beauty, popular support and perfect weather. The City Hall, represented by the Secretariats for Health, Public Safety and Community Defense, Mobility and Urban Services, and the Superintendence of Communication, also contributed to the organization of the event, with Sicredi Pioneira and the Secretariat for Economic, Tourism and Technological Development (SEDETTEC ) sponsors of the event.
Religious celebration and final thanks
Around 11 am, after arriving at the sanctuary, a special mass was held to celebrate the event and mark the end of the pilgrimage. The participation and support of the community, local authorities and various partners were key to the success of the event.
The Pilgrimage of Padre Reus consolidates itself each year as a moment of encounter, faith and devotion, strengthening the bonds between the faithful and the city of São Leopoldo. We are already looking forward to next year’s edition, which promises to be even more special, reaffirming the commitment to tradition and spirituality that surrounds the figure of Father Reus.
