Lighting is one of the most important elements of an architectural project, as in addition to ensuring functionality, it enhances objects and furniture. But how to achieve a natural light effect in environments that don’t have windows or openings? One of the alternatives is to use the tensioned screen, a flexible structure that emits a diffused and uniform light, without shadows or contrasts.
Architect Bia Kestering, who designed the Gourmet Opponere environment at CASACOR Santa Catarina, in Balneário Camboriú, explains how to apply this technique in different spaces, both residential and corporate. In her project, she used the tensioned screen in the washbasin, creating a feeling of a bright and cozy day.
According to her, the tensioned canvas has the advantage of adapting to joinery and decoration, in addition to bringing a scenic and glamorous touch to the environment. She recommends planning to use this structure early on in the project to ensure proper installation.
In residential areas, the architect suggests using the tensioned canvas as a background for shelves, bars and reception areas. It also indicates use in closets, dressing tables, walls and linings. In commercial areas, she highlights the effect of the tensioned screen in meeting rooms, shop windows and fitting rooms.
To regulate the light intensity, she recommends using a dimmer, which allows you to adjust the brightness level according to need. She also advises directing the lighting to the details you want to highlight, such as textures, colors and shapes. For this, she suggests using spots with different focuses, floor lamps and neon led.
“The light from the tensioned screen has a great function of making the environment more illuminated as a whole and, therefore, must be carefully dimensioned for each type of use”, concludes the architect.
