With the aim of helping students with social inclusion actions, a teacher at EMEF Paulo VI implemented a therapy project with dogs. The activity is carried out with the participation of Branca, a little dog that arrived at the school at the beginning of the year with several bruises and wounds. After undergoing castration and vaccination, the little animal became a kind of school mascot, contributing to the development of special students.
“Blanca is adored by children, she is a real sweetheart. We thought about using therapy with her, as it has a significant impact on the growth and development of special children. There are many benefits, especially with regard to socialization, demonstration of affection, respect for limits and anxiety control”, explains Professor Luciana Siqueira, who created the project.
One of the students who participates in therapy with dogs is Elias Cardoso, a 10-year-old boy diagnosed with autism. For her mother, Fabiane Rodrigues Cardoso, contact with Branca is bringing benefits to the boy. “In his case, I’m finding it to be very beneficial. He becomes calmer and can handle situations better. I also notice this at home, since we have a little dog and he loves her. This relationship with animals is very positive for him”, reported the mother.
