Next Sunday, July 9th, at 6 pm, the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra (Ospa) will present two performances that were successful during their series of live broadcasts promoted during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 .
This time, it will be possible to see in person a trio and a quintet of musicians from the orchestra interpreting works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Erwin Schulhoff and Richard Strauss. The event was called “Quintrio” and is part of the Chamber Music Series, which has free entry on a first-come, first-served basis.
The recital will begin with the Schulhoff Trio, composed of musicians Arthur Elias (flute), Leonardo Bock (viola) and Rafael Figueredo (double bass). The group’s name was inspired by Erwin Schulhoff (1894-1942), a Czech composer of Jewish origin who died in a concentration camp during World War II, in 1942.
The trio will perform the Concertino for flute, viola and double bass, a genius and somewhat peculiar work that has fascinated instrumentalists since the rediscovery of Schulhoff’s music in the 90s, according to Figueredo.
The trio performed Schulhoff’s concertino at the seventh edition of Ospa Live, held on June 13, 2020, and the performance can currently be watched on YouTube. In addition, the group will also perform an original adaptation of Prelude and Fugue No. 1 in D minor, K. 404, by the Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). This work contains a Mozart reinterpretation of a Bach fugue, which will now be performed in a quintet arrangement.
The second part of the recital will be in charge of a quintet of musicians from Ospa, composed by Rafael Figueredo (double bass), Luiz Guilherme Nóbrega (violin), Diego Grendene (clarinet), Nadabe Tomás (horn) and Ange Paola Bazzani (bassoon). The group will revisit the work Till Eulenspiegel, by Richard Strauss (1864-1949), which was performed at the 26th edition of Ospa Live, on October 24, 2020, and is also available on YouTube.
