The pianist of Trio Corrente, awarded with Grammy and Latin Grammy, presents the show SARAU at Espaço 373, on July 8th. In the repertoire, authorial songs and by big names in Brazilian music, such as João Bosco, Chico Buarque, Tom Jobim and Vitor Ramil.
What fits inside a piano? For Fabio Torres, all of Brazil fits. The pianist, who is part of Trio Corrente, winner of the Grammy Award and the Latin Grammy in the Best Latin Jazz Album Category, shows his versatility and sensitivity in the show SARAU, his first solo piano work. The presentation takes place on July 8, at Espaço 373, in Porto Alegre.
SARAU is a musical diary by Fabio Torres during the pandemic. They are his own compositions and those of other authors who marked his trajectory and express the feelings and soundscapes of the country. Among the chosen songs are Agnus Sei (João Bosco/Aldir Blanc), Haja Coração (Hermeto Paschoal), Morro Dois Irmãos and O Meu Amor (Chico Buarque), Moreneide (Heraldo do Monte), O Grande Amor (Tom Jobim/Vinícius de Moraes), Viver de Amor (Toninho Horta) and Estrela, Estrela (Vitor Ramil).
“In this show, I take a lyrical journey through Brazil, playing the songs from the place where I am. In Porto Alegre, for example, I’m going to play a song by Vitor Ramil, who is an artist I admire a lot. I try to involve people in this solitary journey that is the solo piano, but which turns into something collective when I arrive at places and the audience participates by choosing iconic melodies. It’s a way of telling a story that goes through the lyrical microcosm of the Brazilian song”, explains the pianist.
Fabio Torres is one of the great names of Brazilian piano. With influences ranging from classical music to jazz, including Brazilian popular music, he has recorded and played with artists such as Paulo Moura, Heraldo do Monte, Arismar do Espírito Santo, Dominguinhos, João Donato, Toninho Horta, Guinga, Leny Andrade and Ivan Lins. In addition to being an instrumentalist, he is also a composer, arranger and lyricist.
For over twenty years he has been part of Trio Corrente, alongside Paulo Paulelli (bass) and Edu Ribeiro (drums). The trio is considered one of the best formations in Brazilian jazz and has already released seven albums praised by critics and the public. In 2014, the trio won the Grammy Award and the Latin Grammy in the Best Latin Jazz Album Category, with the album “Song for Maura”, a partnership with the Cuban saxophonist based in the USA, Paquito D´Rivera. The trio has already performed in several countries in the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia.
