Caxias do Sul witnessed yet another exciting award ceremony at the Gerd Bornheim Municipal Art Gallery, where the city’s literary talents were recognized during the 57th edition of the Annual Literary Contest. Last Friday (16), at the Percy Vargas House of Culture in Abreu e Lima, the deputy mayor Paula Ioris and the Municipal Secretary of Culture, Cristina Nora Calcagnotto, delivered trophies, medals and certificates to the winners selected by the Examining Committee composed of by the writer Suzana Pagot and by the writers Pippo Pezzini and Antônio Schimeneck.
Adriana Antunes, author of the work “o-Vári(a)s”, was the winner of the Vivita Cartier category and started the evening with an emotional speech about the violence faced by women throughout history. “Change never happens in isolation and I am who I am because we all are. It is important that we do not remain silent in the face of what happens to women. ‘O-Vári(a)s’ is a book of pain and suffering, but it is also liberating, because through it we will be less judged, violated and mistreated”, declared the winner of the Vivita Cartier Prize 2023, representing all the winners of the Annual Contest Literary of Caxias do Sul.
Cristina Nora Calcagnotto, Municipal Secretary of Culture, highlighted the importance of the contest in its 57th edition, emphasizing the cultural representativeness it provides. “The contest highlights the literary competence of our city, through these writers who encourage reading, a fundamental pillar for the evolution of our society”, said the secretary.
Deputy Mayor Paula Ioris mentioned the public policies in force, highlighting the contest as one of them, and praised the fact that, for almost 60 years, it has encouraged writing and reading. “I am extremely happy to see this quality public policy being cultivated in Caxias for so long. Congratulations to the writers who had the courage to put their sensibilities on paper, because writing requires courage, in addition to the talent that all the recipients of this edition have shown to possess”, said the deputy mayor.
The unpublished texts category aims to discover new talents and encourage the formation of literary values among the city’s residents, covering short stories, chronicles and poetry. The Vivita Cartier Award aims to recognize the literary work of authors from the region that have already been published, covering fictional texts in the poetry, theater, short story, chronicle, soap opera and romance genres.
