Jackson Moisés Chagas, 2 years old, died this Wednesday (14) at the State General Hospital (HGE), in Maceió, from complications after swallowing a 10 cent coin two days ago at home, in the city of União dos Palmares, in the interior of Alagoas.
A relative, who preferred not to be identified, said that Moisés turned 2 in March, was the youngest child and had three older sisters. She said that the children’s mother is very careful and takes care of the children alone.
“She is suffering too much. I can speak with all the letters in the world she is a great mother. She never had luxury for her, always thinking of them. Everything in her life is them,” she said.

The relative stated that the case was a domestic accident, which happened when Moses picked up a coin on the bed while the mother was combing one of the girls’ hair.
“She [a mãe] He said he gave them a bath and changed their clothes and went to comb Maria’s hair. She said she hadn’t seen that the coin was on the bed. It was a 10 cent coin. When she was combing Maria’s hair, Moses put the coin in his mouth and her daughter said ‘mom, I think Moses swallowed a coin that was on the bed’. When she saw him, his little mouth was already drooling and took him to the hospital”, said the relative.
Realizing that Moisés had swallowed the coin, his mother urgently took him to the Regional Hospital of Mata, in União dos Palmares. On Tuesday afternoon (13), the child was transferred to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the HGE, in Maceió, due to complications after having swallowed the coin.
Moses died at 5 pm this Wednesday at HGE. According to the relative, the coin was only removed from the child’s body this Wednesday morning and he had complications such as pneumonia and cardiac arrest.
