Starting in August, the University of Caxias do Sul (UCS) will be offering a new higher education course: Technology in Viticulture and Enology. The presentation of this novelty will take place on Thursday night, the 15th, during an exclusive event for guests at the Centro Empresarial de Flores da Cunha. This course is characterized by its unique formatting and content.
The UCS degree in Viticulture and Enology aims to train professionals capable of undertaking, planning, operating and managing various segments of the wine and enology area. The training also aims to identify new perspectives, recognizing that professional work and viticulture products are cultural expressions of the region. The first class will have 30 vacancies, and those interested must participate in the selection process. More information can be found in the provided link.
The course lasts a year and a half, with a workload of 2,400 hours, in addition to complementary activities. Classes will be held at the Headquarters Campus, in Caxias do Sul, and at the School of Gastronomy at the University of Caxias do Sul, located in Flores da Cunha. Classes will be available in the afternoon and evening.
The curriculum will include disciplines with practical activities in wineries in the region, in addition to predominantly face-to-face and distance learning disciplines (synchronous and asynchronous). As a differential, students will receive training with an emphasis on the development of entrepreneurial and innovative skills, allowing them to boost the sector in all aspects: technical, wine tourism, geography and food and wine.
“The course was planned so that the student completes the curriculum in three semesters, a model that distinguishes it from all the other six courses in oenology in the country, which have a minimum duration of three years. In addition, it will have the international seal of the Organizzazione Nazionale Assaggiatori di Vino (ONAV), from Italy”, adds the director of the School of Gastronomy, Mauro Cingolani.
The professor points out that the UCS has shown sensitivity in relation to the socio-cultural needs of the region and the demands of the labor market, being ready to provide positive responses in the training of professionals in all areas of knowledge. “We have a very important partnership with the Centro Empresarial de Flores da Cunha, and together, we noticed the real demand for this course in the largest wine region in the country”, observes Cingolani.
