Next Wednesday, the 14th, the Academic Orchestra of the University of Caxias do Sul (UCS) will hold a special concert in celebration of the Week of Caxias, at the UCS Teatro. The event will feature the special participation of Coro Vívere from UCS Senior. Admission is free, and tickets do not need to be purchased in advance.
During the concert, the public will have the opportunity to appreciate the UCS Senior exhibition entitled “Activities License Poética e Protagonismo Feminino”, “Poetry in Conservation” and “Photographic Essay: A Woman’s Place”, which will be on display in the lobby of the UCS Theater until the 19th of June. The events are presented by the UCS, through the Extension Coordination.
The UCS Academic Orchestra concert in conjunction with the Caxias Week celebrations will begin with the Flute Group, conducted by Professor Nathália Boeira. This group was formed with the aim of presenting the work of Chamber Music to the public. A piece by Anton Reicha (1770-1836), composer of the classical and contemporary period of Beethoven, will be performed. The work combines the four voices into a perfect finish, as Reicha was not only a musician and composer, but also devoted himself to music theory.
Then, the large group of the orchestra will take the stage under the direction of professor and conductor Fábio Alves, to present works from the Baroque period, emphasizing the sound of the strings. The 17th century was marked by the appreciation of instrumental music, and composers such as Telemann and Handel are representatives of this style. Musical forms such as the Passacaglia and the Suite, with their characteristic dances, will be performed with the vivacity present in the musical writing of these great composers. Following, the concert will highlight the grandeur of works from the Romantic period, through the composition of B. Smetana, which portrays the strength and energy of the Vltava River, which crosses the city of Prague, where the composer lived. To represent concert music from Latin America, the piece “Danza Final/Malambo”, by Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera, will be performed, bringing modern music composed for the Ballet “Estancias”, which portrays the strength of work in the countryside and the joy of the Latin American people.
The concert will close with the participation of Coro Vívere, presenting Italian songs of a religious and festive nature, as a tribute to the musical culture of immigrants. These songs come from Cansioniero Popolar, a two-volume publication organized by Anthony Beux Tessari and Professor Gelson Leonardo Rech, rector of UCS, from the collection of songs collected by Cleode Piazza and José Clemente Pozenato and members of the Instituto Memória collection. History and Culture of the UCS.
The songs were arranged for orchestra by professors Rodrigo Maciel and Wagner Rezer, exclusively for this concert.
