Between the 16th and 25th of June, Parque Centenário, in Montenegro, will open its doors for São João do Montenegro, one of the biggest popular events in southern Brazil. This is the second edition of the event, which pays homage to the patron saint of Cidade das Artes, as well as celebrating the city’s 150th anniversary.
The program, completely free, includes attractions such as dance groups, gastronomic spaces, handicrafts and performances by local and national bands. On the first weekend, there will be performances of country music, rock and pagode. The highlight of Saturday, the 17th, with the highest public expectations, will be the concert by the band from Rio Grande do Sul, Não de Nós.
Led by Thedy Corrêa, the band has a career spanning over 35 years and will take to the park’s stage at 9 pm. Before that, Montenegrins will be able to have fun listening to Beatles classics with the Liverpoa Beatle Band, which will perform the opening show at 8 pm.
The name “Liverpoa” is a pun that explains the quartet’s proposal: “We are four friends from the greater Porto Alegre, honoring the four friends from Liverpool”, explains Vinicius Bühler, who plays John Lennon in the band.
Before the rock Saturday, the first day of São João will be dedicated to sertanejo, with a concert by the duo Lucas and Felipe. On Sunday, it will be the pagode’s turn, with presentations by the groups Resenha do Dioguinho and Pagode do Brilha.
In the first three days of the event, a show with more than 100 Montenegrin artists will tell the story of the city’s 150 years. From the 23rd to the 25th, in the last three days of the festivities, a June gymkhana will involve 15 schools in the region.
The party will also have the purpose of collecting food and clothing, which will be destined for families in socially vulnerable situations. São João do Montenegro is fully financed by the Culture Incentive Law and access to all days of the event is free.
