The national floriculture sector has great expectations for this year’s Valentine’s Day, which will be celebrated on Monday, June 12th. This increases the possibility of couples investing in flowers and ornamental plants as gifts.
When the date falls on weekends, couples usually prioritize spending on tours, travel and restaurants. The options for flowers and plants are varied and the sector’s revenue depends a lot on the choice of variety.
However, on average, sales can increase between 15% and 20% compared to normal weeks, according to Renato Opitz, Marketing Director at Ibraflor. Slight growth is expected compared to 2022, with a margin of up to 9% depending on the region of the country, according to William José de Wit, president of Ibraflor – Instituto Brasileiro de Floricultura.
It is worth noting that the first half of the year is crucial for the sector, as 32% of the florist’s annual sales occur between March and June, when International Women’s Day, Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day are celebrated.
Therefore, campaigns are intensified to stimulate demand on these occasions. “Despite the delay in some productions due to the cold, our expectation is an increase in sales of around 9% compared to last year in the entire chain, from production to sale to the final consumer”, explains De Wit.
Although sales of red roses and orchids still predominate on this date, the wide variety of flowers and ornamental plants available on the market has contributed to the diversification of trade in other products, both cut and in vases.
Mixed bouquets, which combine foliage and colorful flowers, have won lovers over. “The wide variety of products, the increase in online sales and delivery by delivery have driven this market in general”, says De Wit. The campaign prepared by Ibraflor for the occasion emphasizes that “Love is in every gesture, happiness in every hug”, with photos of couples that highlight diversity in general.
