On Saturday (10), the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra (OSPA) will present the Cervo & Tchaikovsky concert, at 5 pm, in the Symphonic Room of Casa da OSPA, with live transmission on OSPA’s YouTube channel. Tickets cost between R$10 and R$50 and are on sale at Sympla. Before the show, at 4 pm, Francisco Marshall explains the repertoire in the Recital Room, as part of the Concert Notes project.
The presentation includes two premieres by Dimitri Cervo from Santa Maria, one of the most distinguished Brazilian composers, and two works from the Russian canon, written by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Piotr Ilitch Tchaikovsky.
The Orchestra will be conducted by Manfredo Schmiedt, principal conductor of the OSPA Symphonic Choir. He points out that the first part of the concert is dedicated to two works by Dimitri Cervo, a composer whose writing is “very frank, organic, easy to absorb, despite using a series of devices that change the measure”.
OSPA trombonist José Milton Vieira was invited to take on the solos of “Concerto para Trombone e Orquestra”, which is part of “Série Brasil 2010 nº 12”, by Dimitri Cervo. With three movements, the work begins lively, under the influence of Afro-Brazilian rhythms; the second part is calm and lyrical; and the third movement brings a happy conclusion.
