From the 7th of June, the Municipal Art Gallery at Casa das Artes (Avenida Primeiro de Março, 59 – Centro) will host a new exhibition called “Transeuntes”, created by Maurício Hilbert. The exhibition will be open to the public until June 30, with visiting hours from 9 am to 5:45 pm from Tuesday to Friday, and from 9 am to 3:45 pm on Saturdays.
“Passersby” is a series of works started in 2019 that seeks to explore the transformation of the individual when going through different situations and spaces. The artist uses classic elements of drawing and painting to create a personal interpretation through creative processes. Hilbert uses the human figure as inspiration for his creations, exposing its lines and shapes and playing with the fine line between descriptive and expressive. His works expand the definition of the body and gesture, provoking reflections on identity, transformations and time cycles.
The works on display feature a variety of artistic techniques and materials, including fabric collages on kraft paper, charcoal drawings, and plaster and oil paint paintings. This combination between the raw material of the support and the refined skill of the pictorial technique aims to address “the tension present in the human experience, which requires both physical and psychological forms of adaptation and survival”, as highlighted by the artist.
In addition to the paintings from the series, studies carried out during the period in which the artist participated in an exchange program in Portugal (2018-2019), marking the beginning of his research, will also be on display. In addition, a video documentary will be shown, covering the period between 2020 and 2021, and will provide more information about the people depicted. The exhibition will also feature three tactile projects, specially developed to make it accessible to everyone.
Workshop with the artist
On June 20, at 7 pm, artist Maurício Hilbert will give a workshop on expressive drawing of a human figure with charcoal on kraft paper at Casa das Artes. The workshop will be aimed at people aged 16 and over and there will be 10 places available. The total duration of the workshop will be 2 hours. Entries can be made via email at [email protected] or by phone (51) 3600-1109. Applications will close on June 19 or when all spots are filled.
