From the 10th to the 14th of May, the Parque Rural Del Prado track in Montevideo, Uruguay, was the stage for the 2023 Golden Brake Classifier, an event promoted by the Brazilian Association of Creole Horse Breeders (ABCCC).
The objective was to select the best horses for the great functional final of the breed, which will take place during Expointer, at Parque de Exposições Assis Brasil, in Esteio. The competition brought together 18 females and 14 males, including Brazilian riders, and also revealed three new competitors.
Jugada de Santa Márcia led the Female category from the beginning of the functional stages to the end of the dispute, reaching an average of 20.803 points. Under the guidance of the Freio de Ouro rider, Gabriel Viola Marty, the mare showed a lot of functionality and positively surprised the fans. Its creators, Flávio Piegas Martini and Jorge Holtz, stated that it has always shown great aptitude on the track, since it was young, and that it was a gamble that paid off. Jugada de Santa Márcia is the daughter of Basco Veneno and Fiesta Gaúcha.
In the Males category, the clear leader since the first functional stage was Campana Echo a Mano, who ended the Classifier with an average of 20.831 points. Conducted by Tomaz Gonçalves, the son of Triunfo do Puruña and Campana Ana Terra was created by Mário Móglia Suñe and exhibited by André Rodigheri. With a firm temperament and strong training, Campana is a horse already known for his achievements and is now on his way to the 2023 Golden Brake final.
The Classificatoria was evaluated by the trio of Brazilian judges composed by José Francisco Pereira Moura, Eduardo Móglia Suñe and Luiz Alberto Martins Bastos, who praised the initial level of the competition, but highlighted that the best groups were formed with the help of cattle.
In addition to the Golden Brake semifinal, the schedule also included the VW Cup and Morfologia ExpoOtoño dispute.
