A group of investors who intend to install an automobile complex in the Serra Gaúcha met with the mayor of Caxias do Sul, Adiló Didomenico. They wanted to know how the works at the Regional Airport in Vila Oliva are progressing. Proximity to an airport is one of the conditions of the International Automobile Federation to approve racetracks that can host international competitions.
Investors revealed that the purpose of the complex is to host one of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Brazil, in addition to what already happens in Interlagos, in São Paulo. They are inspired by the example of the United States, which will have three races on the 2023 calendar, in the cities of Austin, Las Vegas and Miami.
The project is led by ex-driver Rodrigo Stehling and includes the construction of museums, shopping centers, real estate, a hospital, themed hotels, parks, golf courses, a leisure area, a go-kart track and the main racetrack with pits. According to estimates, the automobile complex would attract Formula 1 and other motorsport categories to the region, generating an annual economic impact of up to R$ 2 billion, considering the tourist attractions and the hotel network. The complex would initially occupy an area of 1,000 hectares. Mayor Adiló was informed that, in São Paulo, F1 moved R$ 1.3 billion last year.
The municipal planning secretary, Margarete Bender, informed that the Vila Oliva airport will be built on a 450-hectare plot of land and that the runway may be expanded in the future, if necessary. The project is being analyzed by the State Foundation for Environmental Protection, in order to obtain installation licenses. About accesses, she indicated routes through the districts of Vila Seca and Santa Lúcia and a connection with Gramado. Adiló also mentioned the possibility of access via the ERS-453 (Rota do Sol).
The meeting was also attended by the municipal secretaries of Transit, Alfonso Willenbring Júnior; Housing, Wagner Petrini; of Urbanism, Carlos Giovani Fontana; and Strategic Partnerships, Matheus Neres da Rocha. In addition to Rodrigo Stehling, the group of investors was represented by the director of the Transport Corridor, Sandra Stehling; by the commercial manager of Metodo Engenharia, Leandro Sobral; by the commercial director of Passarelli Engenharia, Cassiano Damasceno; and by Passarelli Engenharia’s operations manager, Tiago Fernandes.
