The medical entities in Rio Grande do Sul demonstrated their opposition to the recent resolution of the National Council of Justice, which instituted the anti-asylum movement in Brazilian justice.
In a meeting on Thursday (4), the Medical Union of Rio Grande do Sul (Simers), the Regional Council of Medicine (Cremers), the Medical Association of RS (Amrigs) and the State Psychiatry Association (APRS) discussed the subject and defined joint strategies to guarantee the repeal of the measure.
The first action was the dissemination of an alert to society, highlighting the risks of proposals that further compromise assistance to people with psychiatric illnesses within the system. According to the director general of Simers, Fernando Uberti, the resolution represents an increase in precariousness and the dismantling of forensic psychiatric medical structures, by closing specialized hospitals and taking patients to be treated in the network.
Resolution No. 487, of February 15, 2023, institutes the Anti-asylum Policy of the Judiciary and establishes procedures and guidelines to implement the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Law 10.216/2001 in the context of criminal proceedings and the execution of security measures. The meeting took place at the APRS headquarters and was attended by several authorities from the medical field.
