Ezequiel Gomes Rocha, a 22-year-old gamer from Gravataí, qualified for the World Video Game Championship to be held in London, England, from July 13th to 18th. He secured the spot after taking second place in the Apex Legends Tournament, held last weekend.
Previously, Ezequiel was an athlete for the Sports Centers of the City of Gravataí, run by the Municipal Secretariat of Culture, Sports and Leisure (SMCEL), having worked at the Amovale III school, where he was a student of the head of SMCEL, Leandro Ferreira. According to the secretary, “he was my student and today we are very proud”.
Despite having always enjoyed playing video games, Ezequiel considered it just a form of entertainment. It was only in 2019, with the launch of Apex Legends, that he became interested in playing professionally. Currently, he is part of the eSports team, along with other gamers from the state of São Paulo.
The Videogame World Championship, which will be held in London, will bring together gamers from all over the world and will award prizes to the top 20, with the champion receiving R$ 1.5 million.
