The month of April marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest names of the 20th century: the Russian Sergei Rachmaninoff. The event guarantees the composer and pianist a prominent place in the 2023 season of the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra (OSPA), a foundation linked to the State Secretariat for Culture (Sedac-RS).
In the second concert of the Rachmaninoff 150 cycle, the Orchestra performs its Symphony No. 2, in addition to works by Alexander Scriabin and Joaquín Turina. The presentation will take place this Saturday (29/04), at 5 pm, at Casa da OSPA, and will be broadcast on the OSPA YouTube channel. Tickets cost from R$10 to R$50 and are on sale at Sympla.
OSPA will be conducted by the Spaniard José María Moreno, principal conductor of the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra, who is making his first visit to Porto Alegre. The guest soloist will be the Polish Raphael Lustchevsky, who is part of the “Steinway & Sons Artists” list of the most respected pianists in the world. Before the presentation, at 4 pm, UFRGS professor, pianist and cultural activist Francisco Marshall analyzes the repertoire of the day, as part of the Notas de Concerto project.
