Brazil is the largest market in Avon. And from the second half of 2023, the brand’s global product research and innovation operations will be established in the country. The facilities will be integrated into Natura’s Innovation Center – one of the largest and most advanced technology parks in Latin America.
The project explores synergies by creating the Center of Excellence for Advanced Skin Research, as well as the Fragrances Center, combining all the cutting-edge technology that Natura has in Cajamar with the knowledge developed over Avon’s 137 years.
In addition, all fragrance, body and personal care development will also be developed globally in the new laboratories. The objective is to further improve Avon’s scientific capacity, not only due to greater collaboration and sharing of knowledge and technology between the brands of the Natura &Co group, but also due to the location being a strategic region for the company.
The country has the greatest ethnic-racial and geographic diversity on the planet – fundamental characteristics to expand the possibilities for innovation in cosmetics that will be sold on all continents.
“Brazil is Avon’s largest operation in the world and one of the most important markets for the brand. So, strategically, we are mainly investing in bringing R&D closer together regionally, and at the same time promoting greater synergy between teams, reinforcing our objective of democratizing beauty through innovation that will become even more precise and relevant, since we will be close of consumers and representatives”, says Daniel Silveira, president of Avon in Brazil.
“In addition, we are optimizing the state-of-the-art infrastructure that already exists at Natura in Cajamar, thus increasing the harmony between the brands, leveraging the dominant knowledge and technologies, so that we can become increasingly stronger and more competitive in the market”, he adds.
new operations
The entire global development of fragrances and personal care products will be carried out at the new Innovation Center in Brazil, uniting the company’s more than 100 years of knowledge in cosmetics development with the expertise of the Casa de Perfumaria da Nature already operating in Cajamar.
The expectation is to expand benefits, performance and quality in skin and scent technologies, with a capacity and development potential of more than 80 formulas per year in these categories for the whole world and more than 30 specific formulations for Latin America.
“Natura and Avon have different innovation processes, but they complement each other. Therefore, so that both can serve their markets with even more power, we are going to invest in the synergy of knowledge and strategies between the teams, optimizing equipment and taking advantage of the best of what each brand has to offer in terms of technology, research and development, while maintaining the autonomy and particularities – such as target audiences and value propositions for consumers – of the companies and their teams”, explains Daniel.
One of the novelties is the implementation of the Skin Research pole, a multidisciplinary group focused on strengthening the company’s R&D work which, together with the skin research technologies already used at Natura’s Innovation Center, such as the Human-on-a- chip, which simulates the functioning of the human body in the laboratory to assess the safety of ingredients or products, will contribute with new ingredients, approaches and mechanisms for treating the dermis and signs of aging.
The objective is to continue to develop science of the highest level, aligned with the main dermatological trends, with clinically proven efficacy. One of the equipment used will be the PCR Multiplex, which simultaneously evaluates the activity of hundreds of samples and is capable of stimulating the skin, bringing greater agility in the development of innovative products, technologies and actives.
Another piece of equipment that will be transferred to Brazil is the Transport Table, which simulates and evaluates how the products are transported to the consumer and Avon Beauty Representatives, ensuring that the quality remains the same from end to end, from the moment of departure. from the factory to arrival at the consumer’s home, withstanding different ambient temperatures and pressures, for example.
In addition, the new center will house Avon’s largest packaging development innovation center in the world. There will be 18 professionals 100% dedicated to packaging design using cutting-edge resources such as state-of-the-art 3D printers and transport simulators.
