The emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) brings numerous negative impacts to the planet, such as rising global temperatures, abrupt climate changes, loss of biodiversity and health risks. To minimize this problem, measures such as the correct disposal of urban solid waste can be adopted.
O Cool Cap program it has already collected more than 600 million plastic caps, totaling more than 1,100 tons of 100% recyclable material. This material was converted into more than R$2.7 million reais, which were fully allocated to third sector assistance entities registered in the program. Tampinha Legal is the largest socio-environmental educational program in the circular economy of the plastic transformation industry in Latin America.
According to Simara Souza, manager of the SustenPlást Institute, the figures for Tampinha Legal generate significant impacts. For every kilogram of polypropylene collected, the material used in the manufacture of plastic caps, the emission of around 2 kg of carbon dioxide (CO2) is avoided. Since the beginning of the program’s activities, it has already been possible to avoid the emission of 2,250 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
This week we celebrate World Earth Day, a date that symbolizes the struggle to defend the environment, one of the three pillars of sustainability that the Tampinha Legal program is part of: economic, social and environmental. In addition to providing a better quality of life for charitable entities through financial resources, the program also promotes actions to change mass behavior, with the aim of raising awareness about the proper destination of plastic waste. According to Simara Souza, manager of the SustenPlást Institute, if Tampinha Legal did not exist, more than 600 million plastic lids would not be transformed into new artifacts, resulting in savings in water, energy, raw materials and a reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases. stove. Simara points out that the habit of properly disposing of solid waste is essential, as it is a 100% recyclable and valuable material, contributing positively to the economy, society and the environment.
The Cool Bottle Cap
The Tampinha Legal program is an initiative of the SustenPlást Institute with the support of Movimento Plástico Transforma, and seeks to raise awareness about plastic material and its proper destination through actions to change mass behavior. In this way, it promotes the circular economy in practice.
Tampinha Legal invites all sectors of society to collect plastic lids and send them to charities registered in the program, which seeks to obtain the best market valuation for the material. The amounts obtained are fully allocated to the entities, without apportionment or transfers. The program does not receive commissions or gratuities on collected material. In 2022, more than BRL 2.5 million were allocated to participating entities. Recently, Tampinha Legal launched Copinho Legal, which follows the same model as the program and allocates resources from the sale of plastic disposables, such as cups, plates and cutlery, to registered entities. Tampinha Legal operates in nine Brazilian states.
In Porto Alegre, the Tampinha Legal program has the strategic support of the Fundação Gaúcha dos Bancos Sociais da FIERGS. It is possible to find information about collection points, assistance entities and participating companies in the app (available for Android and iOS) and on the website tampinhalegal.com.br. In addition, Tampinha Legal is present on social networks such as YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.
