Due to the overcrowding of the neonatal ICU at the Obstetric Center of Hospital Centenário, the institution was forced to temporarily restrict services to new pregnant women from 7 pm this Saturday, April 15. This measure aims to ensure adequate care for patients already hospitalized.
Currently, the neonatal ICU of the Centennial Hospital it is overcrowded with 14 premature babies in a space designed to accommodate a maximum of 10 newborns. In addition, the mid-term NICU is also operating over capacity, with eight babies in a space designed for six.
The hospital advises that patients who need care in the UTI neonatalin the intermediate neonatal ICU and in the Obstetric Center, they should look for other municipalities that are offering care normally until the situation is normalized.
Nestor Schwertner, president of Fundação Hospital Centenário, emphasizes the institution’s responsibility towards patients. He explains that the temporary restriction of service to new pregnant women it is an urgent measure to ensure adequate care for patients already hospitalized. Due to the overcrowding of the neonatal ICU, the hospital is unable to care for newborns who may need intensive care. Schwertner points out that the decision was taken transparently and that the population is being informed and guided.
