The current production that emerges from the outskirts of the State of RS will be present at the Aquarela Preta Festival that will take place this Saturday, April 15th, from 2 pm to 8 pm, at Galpão Cultural, in Morro da Cruz, in Porto Alegre (check the schedule on “Service”). The realization is by the collective Poetas Vivos, which is one of the artistic attractions of the meeting alongside the rapper Negra Jaque and La Twins.
The initiative seeks to give visibility to the work of artists from the State’s Hip-Hop scene and also includes the presence of a DJ (rap and hip-hop set list), urban dances, graffiti, Slam (poetry battle) and battle of rhyme modality knowledge. There will be cash prizes for the first places in the Slam and in the knowledge modality rhyme battle. All activities have free admission.
confirmed attractions
The program also includes the participation of selected artists in the curatorial phase of the project. They are: Rato and Pretana, from the MC pillar; FD Cremosa, from DJ pillar; Let and Filipe Harp from the Grafite pillar; Restinga Crew and Bboy Deaf, from the Danças Urbanas pillar, and Gbeat representing Beatbox.
According to the project’s creators, Mariana Abreu Marmontel and Felipe Deds, the Aquarela Preta Festival aims to give visibility and enhance black, black, black and peripheral (as/es) and LGBTQIAP+ artists in the context of the Hip-Hop movement. It also seeks to disseminate the five pillars of Hip-Hop culture: MC, DJ, Urban Dances, Graffiti and Knowledge.
Another purpose of the Aquarela Preta Festival is to promote the decentralization of cultural spaces focused on serving children and young people in the communities, which justifies the choice of Galpão Cultural due to its importance and representativeness. Directed by rapper Negra Jaque, Galpão Cultural fulfills a relevant social role in Morro da Cruz, where it works as a space for learning, welcoming and promoting citizenship for children and young people after school hours.
In addition to the artistic shows, the Poetas Vivos collective will promote an educational chat, at 3 pm, talking about the SLAMS movement in Brazil and Rio Grande do Sul, with the purpose of multiplying these cultural circles in the outskirts of the city. Another highlight is Momento Griô with the participation of social educator and griô Vander (17:15).
This project was contemplated by the Decentralized Cultural Events Announcement of the City Hall of Porto Alegre, through the Municipal Secretariat of Culture and the Municipal Fund for Supporting Artistic and Cultural Production (Fumproarte).
About the Living Poets
Poetas Vivos is a cultural initiative of black and peripheral youth that promotes art and anti-racist education. The collective was created in 2018 by young black artists from Porto Alegre and operates directly in schools, universities, community and public spaces, developing workshops, lectures, musical shows, SLAM (poetry battles) and freestyle, addressing ERER, racism, economic, social and environmental inequality, encouraging the implementation of Laws nº 10.639/03 and nº 11.645/08, which oblige the teaching of Afro-Brazilian, African and Indigenous History and Culture throughout the school environment.
Over the four years of existence, the cultural initiative has already been present in the most important events and spoken poetry championships in the State and in Brazil. In 2021, they carried out the project “Poetas Vivos – Formando Multiplidores de Cidadania”, a course aimed at social educators, cultural agents and teachers from public schools, made possible through the Public Notice Creation and Training – Diversity of Cultures, carried out by the Secretariat of the State of Culture in partnership with the Marcopolo Foundation. The Living Poets include: Mariana Abreu Marmontel, Felipe Deds, DaNova, Ericsson Oliveira and Dickel.
