Portinari presents the Maracangalha Collection from the sensitive eye of architect Nildo José. The launch is part of the 2023 portfolio with 12 new collections that express the art of living life in each environment, bringing out feelings of enchantment, calm, happiness and nostalgia in people.
Brazilianity
All these elements come together in the Maracangalha Collection, which brings pieces that overflow with the Brazilian spirit and identity of the Brazilian people, whether through music, mainly samba, ancestral architecture – with its colorful houses, colonial tiles and stone pavements – without forgetting, of course, affectivity, activated by touch, smells, flavors and childhood memories. All the pieces in the collection are made up of elements that were once the context of an experience and today become central to the inspiration of a warm design that arouses emotion.
Known in his work for the finely tuned mix between the international language and the regional references that are part of his identity, for the originality and freshness of his creations, Nildo José is one of the most important names in contemporary Brazilian interior design.
The collaboration between Portinari and the team from the NJ+ office has a history and begins at CASACOR, where they met to create the brand environment for the São Paulo edition of the show, Sertão Portinari.
Creative process and inspiration
From there, the foundations of the collection began, which stands out for its samba movement. The execution emerged from a totally experimental process between the brand and the architect. The result was achieved with the NJ+ team, which combined art with Portinari technology for a coating full of rhythm and fluidity.
The paving stones of inland cities, where the look of the stone is gradually altered by the country soil that is deposited on the surfaces, was the inspiration for the base coating, which features a single color, without design, but with an equally rich texture. There are two finishing options: a non-slip one, for external areas, and a brushed, softer one, for internal environments.
Another essential feature is the warm color palette. The four shades chosen for the Maracangalha Decor model have a warm appearance, even when it comes to blue, and carry the joy and nuances present in the little houses in the interior of Bahia.
The coverings are stamped with a sandy look and, sprinkled across the surface, small amorphous elements inspired by the samba movement, which create a visual rhythm on the wall after the pieces are installed.
A last element deeply linked to the history and culture of the region, sugar cane appears reinterpreted in the Maracangalha Mosaico, a screened slat that brings the concept of rhythm, here marked by the repetition of thin and elongated shapes. Its design allows it to perfectly cover straight or curved surfaces indoors or outdoors.
