Designer Tanara Mallmann is recognized for her authorial ceramics that combine refinement and simplicity in unique pieces. His newest collection, named Sasso (meaning stone in Italian), is a tribute to his ancestors and his roots in the Serra Gaúcha. The ceramist’s creations are true works of art that reflect her passion for ceramics and design.
Born in Caxias do Sul, Tanara Mallmann sought inspiration in her memories and experiences to create the Sasso ceramics collection. The pieces were idealized for the autumnal equinox and are inspired by the landscapes of Rio das Antas, between Nova Roma and Nova Pádua. Molded in clay, the objects in the collection have colors and shapes that refer to the stones found in the region.
“The Sasso Collection is, above all, a tribute to the Italian colonizers who arrived here and found a world of stones to be explored in the colonies on the banks of the Rio das Antas. The same river that, decades later, would become the scene of so many memories that I carry from my childhood, when I picked green figs, bathed and played ‘sassos’ in those waters”, says Tanara.
Part of the Sasso Collection are pieces produced in limited editions for the table, such as plates, platters, bowls, mugs and coffee cups. Different natural tones, ranging from lead gray to rust beige, appear in the utility pieces, which can be purchased individually or together. A line of vases, which can be used in countless ways and in different environments, also make up the collection, and can be ordered in black or white.
Produced by hand, the ceramics with Tanara Mallmann’s signature can be taken to the oven (conventional, electric and microwave), and also to the washing machine. These are pieces that go through a firing process at a temperature of 1230º, which guarantees strength and durability.
The official launch of the collection took place on the 10th, 11th and 12th of March, during the last edition of Open Select, an independent design fair held in Institute Ling, in Porto Alegre. In addition to exhibiting her work, Tanara was, along with designers Camila Farina and Bruno de Lazzari, one of the curators of the event, which brought together dozens of independent creators from southern Brazil.
