Pelotas is back in the spotlight on the national rowing scene. Repeating the results of the last seasons, three athletes from the Remar para o Futuro project, an initiative of the City Hall, reached the necessary index to represent the country in the 2023 season. last weekend, in Rio de Janeiro, the Pelotas represent more than half of those called up for the Junior and Under-23 teams.
The rowers who obtained the best results in the selective must represent Brazil in the South American Rowing Championship that, this year, will be in April in Chile. Athletes Ana Júlia Ferreira, Brenda Madruga and Helen Belony reached the necessary indices to join the national team. The technical coordinator and coach of Remar para o Futuro, Oguener Tissot, celebrates the results of the students, as well as the invitation to graduates of the project.
“We had a very positive result, reaching our expectation of three classified athletes. In addition, we will have, once again, the majority of athletes from Pelotas in the Junior and Under-23 teams, who will represent Brazil in the competition in Chile. These results show the strength of Pelotas rowing and indicate that we are on the right path, ”he said.
Helen Belony, who is in her first year at the Under-23, easily won the classification of the Skiff Under-23 Open category. The athlete can also compose the Double and Four Skiff modalities, alongside other rowers classified in the selective. Ana Júlia Ferreira and Brenda Madruga, who reached the classification in the category Dois Sem Feminino, await confirmation of the Brazilian Rowing Confederation (CBR) regarding the resources needed to participate in the competition.
Recognition beyond the podiums
The expressive classification of students and graduates of Remar para o Futuro in the selection revealed, once again, the potential of Pelotas in the practice of the sport. Considering the excellent performance of the athletes, the technical coordinator of the project, Oguener Tissot, was called up again to compose the team of coaches of the Brazilian National Team in the South American Championship.
The coach already has several passages in the national team as a coach, winning a total of five titles for the Brazilian national team and having even played in the World Rowing Championship held in Czech republic.
New vacancies in the project
For the first season of 2023, Remar para o Futuro is already preparing the next selection process and search for new talents. So far, 12 new vacancies are expected to open, all aimed at young people enrolled in public schools aged between 13 and 15 years.
The project is completely free and provides athletes with transportation vouchers, uniforms, post-workout meals, rowing classes, bodybuilding, Olympic weightlifting, yoga and swimming, in addition to nutrition, physical education, physiotherapy, dentistry and medicine services.
Rowing for the Future is organized by the Municipality of Pelotas, Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel), Clube Centro Português, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo and Academia de Remo Tissot.
