Next Saturday (25th) is the celebration of the 10th season of the Cleaning of the Seas project, promoted by Associação Náutica Brasileira (ACATMAR), Mundo Mar and Acquanauta Floripa. Also celebrating the anniversary of the capital of Santa Catarina, which turned 350 this week.
In view of the emblematic dates, the entity returns to the Ilha do Arvoredoin Greater Florianópolis, to remove accumulated waste from shipwrecks, ghost nets and others, on the shores and at the bottom of the sea, which arrive through sea currents and incorrect disposal.
“We have already reached the sad mark of more than 130 tons collected during the more than 35 stages of Cleaning the Seas during these 10 years of the project. A sad mark, but even so, the project is rewarding, since at each place we return, we feel a greater awareness and a constant decrease in the accumulation of waste”, explains Leandro ‘Mané’ Ferrari, president of ACATMAR.
The action at the Arvoredo marine reserve will be in conjunction with the ICMBio, the Brazilian Navy and the Environmental Military Police. The Cleaning of the Seas project also has the support of the Municipality of Florianópolis and the Captaincy of the Ports of SC. “We also thank our supporters and volunteers, who in these 10 years have numbered more than 2,000”, concludes Ferrari.
The project’s main sponsor, Fort Atacadista, chose Cleaning of the Seas because it is linked to the environmental actions supported by the company. “Nothing is more pertinent than linking our brand to initiatives that contribute to society, as is the case of the Cleaning of the Seas. This year we complete six years of incentive, and, without a doubt, this stage in Ilha do Arvoredo will be historic and vital for our partnership”, declares Simone Cotta, national manager of corporate communication and ESG of Grupo Pereira, from Fort Atacadista.
The Ilha do Arvoredo Stage also has the support of the Municipality of Florianópolis, Port Authority of SC, Nepom, Bandeira Azul, BOATLUX, Marina Atlântida, Neptune Geradores, VERTEX Oil Spill Supply and Catamarã Floripa.
