Two great composers of the 19th century are at the next concert by the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra, this Saturday (25) at 5 pm, in the Symphony Room of Casa da OSPA. On one side, the consecrated name of the Russian Piotr I. Tchaikovsky; on the other, a composer who is being rediscovered, Louise Farrenc.
The São Paulo native Natália Larangeira debuts as guest conductor of the Orchestra and the Brazilian violinist living in Germany Gustavo Surgik returns to join the Symphony Orchestra after three decades. At 4 pm, the repertoire is the subject of the Concert Notes lecture, with flutist Leonardo Winter.
Natália Larangeira has embarked on a promising career that has included the coveted position of assistant conductor of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra at Teatro Colón. In her debut at the head of OSPA, the maestrina will conduct two pieces from the romantic period, with easily recognizable melodies.
Natália, who is studying for a master’s degree in the Music Course at UNICAMP, is dedicated to research and the historical rescue of works written by women. She comments on the choice to play Louise Farrenc:
Based in Paris, Louise Farrenc (1804 – 1875) was also a teacher, writer and owner of a sheet music publishing house along with her husband. Of the three symphonies composed by Louise, OSPA performs the third. Dating from 1847, it is an energetic work, permeated by contrasts.
In the second part of the concert, OSPA welcomes soloist Gustavo Surgik to perform “Concerto for Violin, Op. 35”, composed in 1878 by Piotr I. Tchaikovsky (1840 – 1893). This is one of the great concerts written for the instrument, suggested by Gustavo himself for this Saturday’s program.
