Registration is open until April 14th for couples interested in participating in the 18th edition of the Pelotas Collective Marriage, which will take place on June 16th, 2023. The event is developed by the partnership between City Hall and Ronda da Cidadania Project and has already made 1,022 relations in the city official, totally free of charge.
The Secretary of Social Assistance (SAS), Tiago Bündchen, says that, after three years without holding the event, due to the pandemic, the search for partners for the project is intense, to guarantee participants the best memories of that moment.
The party and the bride and groom’s clothes are offered through sponsorship from partner companies and the City Hall. “This ceremony is a way of including and offering dignity to vulnerable families and a way of strengthening family ties”, says the secretary.
Interested couples must register at the Social Assistance Reference Centers (Cras), from Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm. Single people must present a birth certificate; divorced persons, marriage certificate with divorce record; and, widowers, marriage and death certificate of the spouse.
80 couples will be assisted, selected in the order of registration, but even after reaching this number, the Cras will continue to receive registrations, as a waiting list will be created in case of withdrawals.
At the time of registration, couples will receive a list of documents requested by the registry office and the information they must provide, such as, for example, whether they will adopt their spouse’s last name or whether they will follow with their maiden name and property regime. In the case of fiancés under 16 or over 70 years old, the regime is Mandatory Separation of Assets.
Participants must participate in preparatory meetings on dates to be defined.
