Registration for the second edition of the Saneamento na Escola Program, promoted by the Pró-Sinos Consortium together with school communities, began this Monday (20/3). The adhesion form was sent to the municipalities through the environmental interlocutors of each municipality and the registration deadline is April 20th.
The Saneamento na Escola program is inspired by the Portuguese Eco Escolas program, and is aimed at municipal elementary and early childhood schools in cities associated with Pró-Sinos.
The actions are related to the four axes: water supply, sanitary sewage, urban drainage and solid waste management. “The idea is that the school community becomes a multiplier and the school a space for environmental awareness and mobilization of society”, emphasizes the president of Pró-Sinos and mayor of Sapucaia do Sul, Volmir Rodrigues.
In the initiative, as explained by the coordinator of Environmental Education at Pró-Sinos, Deise Poeta dos Santos, the team coordinators receive training to support the development of activities that sensitize the community about the conservation and maintenance of the Rio dos Sinos Watershed, encourage the correct management of domestic solid waste and selective collection, in addition to the cultivation of composters in schools, cultivation of vegetable gardens and encouragement to reduce water consumption.
Last year, the Saneamento na Escola program involved more than 20,000 people from different communities in the municipalities of the Rio dos Sinos Hydrographic Basin, mobilizing more than 30 schools and more than 60 teachers.
From the various activities promoted, the schools and students with works best evaluated by a judging commission receive trophies, medals and certificates. “In 2022 the program achieved its objectives and we have very positive expectations for this year”, projects Deise.
