March 17 marks the celebrations of Saint Patrick’s Day, or as it became known in Brazil, St. Patrick’s Day, Irish culture with a strong presence in Porto Alegre for at least five years.
Repeating the success of 2022, this year the largest concentration of events will be in the 4th District, where at least five lanes will be closed, from 6 pm on Friday to midnight, so that the population can celebrate in the neighborhoods. In this edition, the party should also extend over the weekend and include other areas of the Capital.
According to the organizers of the event in the 4th District, the expectation is to receive 20 thousand people and sell more than 100 thousand liters of beer in 150 taps between bars and restaurants. The region concentrates the largest number of craft breweries in Brazil.
At the Office of Events, of the Secretariat for Economic Development and Tourism (SMDET), more than 20 licensing requests for the use of public roads to celebrate Saint Patrick, including the neighborhoods Bela Vista, Menino Deus, Cidade Baixa, Botanical Garden and Rio Branco.

Starting this Tuesday, the 14th, ten monuments and sights in Porto Alegre will be illuminated in green, the symbolic color of Saint Patrick’s Day. The action is part of a global movement in honor of the date. Last year, according to an assessment by the Consulate of Ireland in São Paulo, Porto Alegre had the biggest event in Latin America, considering the number of attractions, including lighting.
The places that will have special lighting are the Military Brigade Museum (Rua dos Andradas, 498); Museum of Work (Rua dos Andradas, 230); Brigadeiro Sampaio Monument (Brigadeiro Sampaio Square); Intendente José Montaury Building (Rua Siqueira Campos, 1300); Drum, Monument to Black Culture (Brigadeiro Sampaio Square); Pinacoteca Rubem Berta (Rua Duque de Caxias, 973); Imperial Fountain (Farroupilha Park); Monument to the Expeditionary (Parque Farroupilha); Fonte Talavera (Praça Montevideo) and Chalé da Praça XV (Praça XV de Novembro).
Security
The Municipal Guard will mobilize 60 agents per shift to monitor the events scheduled from Friday, the 17th, to the weekend – in addition to St. Patricks Day, also includes the STU National competition.
In all, 15 vehicles and a mobile command and control unit will be available to the crews to deal with any incidents. The Integrated Command Center (CEIC) structure, which receives images from the capital’s video surveillance circuit, will also be used.
Oversight
The Inspection Board will work with the Economic Development and Tourism (SMDET), Health (SMS), Municipal Department of Urban Cleaning (DMLU) and Procon departments to curb irregular street vendors, incorrect waste disposal and lack of visibility. of consumer prices.
Traffic
The Public Transport and Circulation Company (EPTC) will provide more than 40 traffic and transport agents and 10 vehicles to guarantee road safety on Saint Patrick’s Day. The agents and the EPTC video monitoring and mobility control center will monitor circulation and guide pedestrians and drivers to minimize impacts on traffic.
In the Fourth District, from 8 am on Friday the 17th, five lanes will be completely blocked for the assembly of the event, with local access to residents and companies. From 6 pm until midnight, other streets will be blocked for the celebration. Other neighborhoods will also have specific interventions until Sunday, 19.

Vehicles coming from Rua Voluntários da Pátria can access Rua Moura Azevedo, then turn left onto Rua Cons. Camargo and turn right onto Avenida São Pedro.
