Clube dos Jangadeiros will host the first stage of the II Gaucho Wing Foil Championship, on March 25th and 26th. The event will take place at the club’s headquarters in Porto Alegre.
This is an event of enormous importance for Jangadeiros, not only because of the promotion of the sport of sailing, but also to emphasize the pioneering spirit of the club in this modality, which has been attracting more and more practitioners of Kitesurfing e Windsurfing.
Athletes from the Race modality will compete in the competition, divided into three categories: Wind Slalom and Barla-Sota, in addition to a regatta for newcomers to the modality, with the aim of encouraging the public to get to know the sport.
Unlike last year’s championship, held in just one stage, this year the competition intends to be held in four stages in different locations, giving beginner athletes time to evolve at each stage and gain experience.
One of the organizers of the event and captain of the fleet, Marcelo Bernd, says that Jangadeiros has, today, the second most active fleet of clubs in southern Brazil, second only to Optimist. Bernd also talks about expectations, which are on the rise. “Since then, people have trained a lot, invested in more modern equipment. The technical difference between them has diminished a lot and the dispute promises to be very close”, says Bernd. “Everyone has an excellent technical level. The best sailors in the State are those who represent the Jangadeiros Clubbecause we started practicing before everyone else”, he adds.
The start will be at Raia da Tristeza/Pedra Redonda. The public is invited to attend the event.
