The Casa da Orquestra Sinfônica de Porto Alegre (OSPA) once again hosts concerts on Saturdays. The Villa-Lobos & Gershwin show opens the 2023 Season on March 11 at 5 pm. To perform the works, Japanese soprano Eiko Senda and Brazilian pianist Sylvia Thereza were invited as soloists. The duo of soloists also participates in a chat on Thursday (9), at 4 pm, within the schedule of the Secretariat of Culture of Rio Grande do Sul (Sedac-RS) for Women’s Month.
For the first performance of the year, the conductor and artistic director of OSPA, Evandro Matté, selected two works by each composer, Heitor Villa-Lobos and George Gershwin. According to Matté, the two innovated by “inserting popular and regional music from their countries into concert music”.
Those wishing to discover more details about the program can attend Notas de Concerto, an audience training project that brings comments and curiosities about each work that will be presented by the orchestra. On the 11th, at 4 pm, the pianist Max Uriarte will give an explanation in the Recital Room of the Casa da OSPA – admission is via concert ticket. Throughout 2023, other experts will comment on OSPA’s Casa Series concerts.
Chat “Women in Music” – 9/3, at 4 pm
As part of the Sedac-RS Women’s Month program, OSPA will hold a chat on Thursday (9), at 4 pm, about the female presence in concert music environments. The soloists of the opening concert of the season, the pianist Sylvia Thereza and the soprano Eiko Senda, join Ange Bazzani, the first woman to hold the position of bassoon soloist in the history of OSPA, to share their professional experiences and inspire other women to make music your profession.
