Until the 26th of March, Passo Fundo Shopping presents the Patchwork Exhibition “Women: a composition of stories” with affective memories created from patchwork.
The space in Praça de Eventos will be open until the end of the month to show the work of several women and artists from the city who work with patchwork (a technique of joining fabrics of different shapes), followed by a solidarity action together with Amigos do Well, a social support network that reverts the income from its products to transform lives in Brazil, and also the exhibition “Mulheres sobre Mulheres”.
The highlight for the show’s action will be the real-time collaborative work of women who visit the exhibition and will be invited to compose part of a quilt made with the patchwork technique on the 8th, when International Women’s Day is celebrated. This exercise will be an invitation to reflect on the importance of this art and also to value the tradition that rescues affective memories and creates new lines of stories with many hands. The exhibition also has a partnership with the Fashion Course at the University of Passo Fundo.
In addition to the show, a campaign will soon be launched in partnership with Amigos do Bem, which has been carrying out transformative work for over 30 years with around 150,000 families served in the Brazilian hinterland. Above R$ 250.00 in purchases at stores participating in the campaign at the mall, customers will win a bag made of patchwork as a gift to support the work of Amigos do Bem and also strengthen manual art. The bag is part of the Mandacaru Line, a plant native to northeastern Brazil that represents the strength and resistance of its people.
Women about Women
In allusion to Women’s Day, Passo Fundo Shopping is also hosting the exhibition “Women about Women”, which portrays the various representations of the female figure through art. The works of eight female artists who stand out for their work in favor of the city are presented, with works that are part of the collection of the Ruth Schneider Visual Arts Museum of the University of Passo Fundo (MAVRS/UPF) and the private collection of curator Mariane Loch Sbeghen .
The public can check out different techniques, such as painting, engraving and sculpture, contemplating works by artists Ruth Schneider, Roseli Doleski Preto, Maria Lucina Busato Bueno, Nadja Rossato, Rosana Bortolin, Rosa Maria Coitinho and Miriam Postal. The exhibition also has a partnership with the Historical Institute of Passo Fundo and Original Espaço Cultural and is located on the 2nd floor, next to Chiquinhos Sorvete.
