During the entire month of March, UCS Orquestra and Lions Clube de Caxias do Sul Educação e Cultura – Lions EduC present the Bossa Nova project in RS, with ten free concerts in cities where the University of Caxias do Sul has campuses, such as Caxias do Sul, Bento Gonçalves, Nova Prata, Flores da Cunha, Farroupilha, Guaporé, Torres, São Sebastião do Caí and Vacaria. The initiative focuses on Bossa Nova, one of the most popular Brazilian musical genres.
The series of concerts begins on March 2, at 7:30 pm, at the Clube Independente de Flores da Cunha, and continues until the 30th, when the last performance will be held, at 8 pm, at the Auditorium of UCS Região das Hortênsias, in Canela.
The concerts also take place during the Festival Vem pra UCS, in Bento Gonçalves and Caxias do Sul.
In addition to offering quality music, fostering the construction of a repertoire and public taste, whether students or communities where the University is located, the project also proposes to bring audiences closer to the sound of concert music, reaffirming the vocation of UCS Orchestra with its different performance formats, from traditional operas to popular concerts based on samba and rock repertoire, among others.
Conducted by maestro Manfredo Schmiedt, the concerts will have the Bossa Nova movement as their main theme, in a selection of songs with a historical focus and a sampling of the different periods and styles that are contained within the genre. Arrangements written especially for the formation of the UCS Orquestra by the musician Pedrinho Figueiredo, who is also a soloist in the presentations, will be interspersed with texts that will illustrate the various points of connection between Bossa and Rio Grande do Sul.
The repertoire selected for the concerts includes thirteen compositions that are part of the history of Brazilian Popular Music, especially the Bossa Nova movement. The program includes classics signed by Tom Jobim such as Samba do Avião, Águas de Março, Triste and Wave, this one in partnership with Vinícius de Moraes. The repertoire of this same duo of composers also includes Chega de Saudade, Garota de Ipanema and Outra Vez.
The presentations will be surrounded by care with infrastructure and accessibility. Special resources and spaces will be available at the event venues for wheelchair users, with special attention also for people with physical, hearing and visual impairments. Libra interpreters will participate in the concerts.
