The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) decided to withdraw the mandatory use of protective masks on planes and airports, this Wednesday (1.Mar). Voting has not ended yet, but already has a favorable majority. Three directors voted in favor of the withdrawal and the votes of two others are still missing.
The Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) had sent a request to Anvisa, requesting the withdrawal of the mandatory use of masks, based on a series of studies that show the low impact of facial protection on the spread of the disease.
The measure had been suspended in August 2022 and was resumed in November of the same year due to the increase in the number of positive Covid-19 tests. The subject’s rapporteur, Daniel Pereira, states that the suspension of the obligation is due to the improvement of the epidemiological scenario, that is, the reduction in the number of hospitalizations and new cases of the disease.
Another 14,706 cases of covid-19 and 81 deaths caused by the disease were registered in Brazil in the last 24 hours, according to data released by the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass). The total numbers infected by the coronavirus and deaths have now risen to 37,052,936 and 699,074, respectively. The moving average for the last seven days is at 9,322
