The Rio Grande do Sul wheat harvest in 2022 recorded historic numbers. According to data from Emater/RS, Rio Grande do Sul harvested 5.1 million tons of cereal, a value never reached before.
The sown area, of 1.45 million hectares, was the largest in the last 42 years. Numbers like this reaffirm the confidence that the wheat crop has been giving to farmers, even more so in a context of climate challenges in the summer harvest.
For the south regional manager of Biotrigo, Tiago De Pauli, the summer context, together with market factors, brings greater optimism to the producer in relation to the wheat crop in the next harvest. “The tendency of the producer is to seek a financial recovery now in the winter. And with the profitability that wheat offered in the last harvest, the area should grow again in 2023”, he mentions.
And in search of adding greater profitability during the winter, the rural producer present at the 23rd edition of Expodireto will be able to check out new technologies in wheat during the fair. This is the case of TBIO Motriz, a cultivar that has the purpose of offering an excellent productive potential while delivering high security in the field, due to its balanced phytosanitary package and high production stability.
“Due to its medium/late cycle, Motriz offers the possibility of opening and staggering sowing, which brings greater security”, reports Verônica Bertagnolli, agronomist and seed producer in Coxilha (RS).
According to her, Motriz proved to be highly responsive to fertilization, with a direct return on crop yield, an important factor for the farmer’s profitability in a year that should count on a reduction in production costs. In 180 hectares of the cultivar, his farm obtained an average of 108.5 bags per hectare, with production peaks exceeding 120 sc/ha in some areas. The variety will go through the multiplication process this year.
Bleaching wheat
The profitability of wheat depends on the success rate of the farmer in the crop. This is achieved by a combination of factors, with the main ones being the union between good genetics and good management, both fertility and disease. However, an additional aspect that can contribute to greater profitability for the producer is taking advantage of the opportunities that the market offers, such as the demands of the buyers of that grain.
One of the main examples of these opportunities is within the whitening wheat segment, which can count on an outstanding remuneration depending on the harvest.
