The Minister of Women, Family and Human Rights, Damares Alves, and the Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, visited this Thursday (Jan 20) the family and the 10-year-old girl, who would have suffered a cardiac arrest and, therefore, led the municipality of Lençóis Paulista (SP) to suspend the vaccination of people aged 5 to 11 against covid-19 for seven days. The meetings took place in the afternoon, in Botucatu, in the interior of São Paulo.
The information was disclosed by Damares on Twitter. Still on the social network, she said that President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) spoke with the child’s family by phone, late Thursday morning. Bolsonaro is opposed to the mandatory vaccination of children against covid and, on different occasions, has raised doubts about the safety of the immunizer for this public. The government even carried out a public consultation on the subject and considered conditioning the application of doses in small children to the presentation of a medical prescription.
According to the Center for Epidemiological Surveillance (CVE) of São Paulo, there was no causal relationship between vaccination and the clinical picture presented by the girl, so that an adverse event after vaccination is ruled out. The child has Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome and is hospitalized. Damares said he wanted her to “get out of the hospital soon, come home and be well.”
The minister congratulated Queiroga on the initiative of meeting in Botucatu and said that they went “to hug the family, provide solidarity and ensure the close monitoring of the case in addition to meeting the immediate needs”. “We also went to congratulate the medical team for the care they are giving to the girl”, he added. The Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights and the Ministry of Health will monitor the “examinations, assessments and diagnoses” related to the case, according to Damares.
I’ve just landed at Air Base. I was in Botucatu / SP this afternoon with the Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, visiting the family and the girl from Lençóis Paulista, hospitalized after suspected cardiac arrest on the same day she received the Covid vaccine.
