The Department of Animal Protection (Sempa) of São Leopoldo starts on Wednesday (1st), registrations for the neutering of dogs and cats (males and females). Secretary Walter Leo Verbist estimates the sterilization of approximately 650 animals through a parliamentary amendment, articulated by the President of the Chamber of Councillors, Marcelo Dentinho, in the amount of R$ 250 thousand. In 2022, Sempa carried out 1251 animal castration procedures for families in socially vulnerable situations.
Register
To register, the tutor must be a resident of São Leopoldo, be over 18 years old and have a monthly income of up to R$ 2,500.00. Registration is carried out in person at SEMPA’s headquarters, from 9 am to 2 pm, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Verbist explains that Sempa will be responsible for referring those registered to the accredited veterinary clinic to perform the surgical procedures. The clinic will contact the tutor to schedule the neutering and give pre and post surgical instructions.
Medication for the postoperative period is at the expense of the guardian and all castrated animals will receive an identification chip. Non-attendance implies the loss of the opportunity to perform the procedure.
The procedures (from 10 to 15 per week) will be performed by Clínica Centro de Saúde Animal, located at Av. Imperatriz 78. Despite being the only one accredited so far, the public notice for the accreditation of veterinary clinics for animal sterilization is still open.
More information by calling Sempa (51) 35929981 or by whatsapp on duty (51) 97666152.
