The National Association of Herd-Book Collar Breeders (ANC) will promote, on March 27th and 28th, the Registration & Improvement Course in Santa Maria (RS). The objective is to demystify the process of genealogical registration of animals, as well as to show the practical application of data from the Beef Cattle Improvement Program (Promebo). The event will only be held in person at the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) – in the auditorium of Colégio Politécnico – from 9 am to 12 pm and from 1.30 pm to 5 pm, on both days. Entries must be made by March 22 via the link bit.ly/CursoRegistroSantaMaria. Spaces are limited.
Alternate Superintendent of the ANC, Braulli Ferrari, points out that the course is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to learn more about genealogical records and genetic improvement. “Like last year, we are going to go over the registration step by step and explore the tools available at Origen so that the breeder, student or technician in the region leaves with quality information to put into practice on the properties”, he adds. Ferrari will be one of the speakers at the event, alongside Promebo coordinator Laerte Rochel and ANC registration coordinator Dionlenon Pires.
In addition to registration, the course will address the characteristics evaluated by Promebo. The idea, according to Rochel, is to show in a simple and didactic way how to interpret DEPs, indices, percentiles and accuracy to help with selection. “It is not enough to have information about the animals at hand. To harvest the fruits, you need to know what to do with them according to the purpose of the farm. And this is what we are going to show in the course, ”he explains.
According to Professor of Beef Cattle at the Polytechnic College of UFSM, Alexandre N. Motta de Souza, in the process of professionalization of beef cattle there is a lot to evolve in terms of nutrition, health and genetics of the herds. “The course is a unique opportunity for us to better understand the concepts and applications of genetic improvement tools. Genetics is the basis of efficient and precision farming,” he says.

ANC members, entity and Promebo technicians will be exempt from the registration fee, but will need to register in advance to guarantee a place. For those who are not members, the fee is R$ 100 and students pay only 50% of the amount. Participants will receive a certificate and support material.
