RAR wines, a company created by Raul Anselmo Randon, stood out in one of the most important national awards in the area. Eleven RAR labels won the Grand Gold, Gold, Platinum and Commended seals at the Wines of Brazil Awards 2022. The result was recently released by ViniBraExpo, organizer of the competition.
The label to receive the Platinum seal was Don Raul, a wine designed by Mr. Raul Anselmo Randon, to celebrate his 90th birthday. RAR’s CEO, Sergio Barbosa, explains the product’s differentials. “The Don Raul – Apassimento de Merlot, presents an excellent balance between aromas and flavors and reached the mark above 96 points by the judges. That is why it was considered by the award one of the evocative and extraordinary labels in all its attributes and entered the list of iconic wines, worthy of a special effort when consuming”. Wines Of Brazil 2022 had 284 participating Brazilian wineries with 2,703 registered wines.
In addition to Don Raul, the Riserva Di Famiglia – Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot received the Gran Gold seal, Gold seal: the labels Collezione Pinot Noir, Collezione Chardonnay, Collezione Viognier and the sparkling Cuvée Nilva Brut Rosé. The following labels were awarded in the Commended category, with the silver seal: Cuvée Raul Brut, Collezione Cabernet Sauvignon, Collezione Merlot and Avvento de Rosé de Pinot Noir.
The grapes of the awarded wines come from Campos de Cima da Serra, in Vacaria (RS), where RAR is located, and this is one of the main differentials of the labels, as the terroir of the region, with long winters and intense cold with dry summers, results in wines with higher acidity, good color stability and a good aromatic profile.

RAR was conceived by Raul Anselmo Randon in the 1970s, with origins in fruit growing, especially the cultivation and export of apples. It is currently one of the largest producers and traders of the fruit in Brazil. In 1990, the company set up the first Tipo Grana cheese factory outside Italy, under the Gran Formaggio brand.
The portfolio has a line of imports made up of Italian cheeses and vinegars, Italian and Spanish charcuterie, as well as Chilean olive oils. The derivatives part consists of pasteurized milk cream, butter and parmesan cheese.
The company, headquartered in Vacaria (RS), also has a line of 29 wines and sparkling wines, 16 of which are produced domestically and 13 are imported from Italy and Argentina, as a result of the partnership with the MASI winery.
