The explosion of Covid-19 cases earlier this year, caused by the arrival of the Ômicron variant, has put many states under pressure on their health systems, especially in Intensive Care Units. Ceará, Goiás, Pernambuco and Espírito Santo present a level very close to 80% – in the case of the state of Pernambuco – and above this percentage in the other three states.
In addition to these four states, the Distrito Federal also presented critical indices. The occupancy rate of public ICU beds to treat the most serious patients affected by Covid-19 reached 91.11% this Wednesday (19). The data is from the InfoSaúde panel. In the public network, there are only 4 spots left to accommodate the infected.
The index had not reached this level since June last year, according to monitoring by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. Faced with the increased demand for vacancies, the government announced a plan to mobilize beds structured in seven phases. Last week, 10 extra beds were opened, and the forecast was for another ten to start working this Wednesday.
The state of Goiás recorded on Tuesday (18) an occupancy rate of Covid-19 ICU beds of 82.58% and in the capital, 83.51%. The infirmary rate for Covid is 50.36% in the state and 86% in Goiânia. Another state that has bed occupancy at worrying levels is Ceará. According to the Ceará Health Department, the occupancy rate this Wednesday (19) is 83.33%.
According to the information panel of the Pernambuco Department of Planning and Management, the occupancy rate of ICU beds due to severe acute respiratory syndrome, an infection caused by the coronavirus, was 86% on Monday (17). The state of Pernambuco has 952 Covid ICU beds, but on Monday (17), five people (three adults and two children) were waiting in the queue for a vacancy.
Espírito Santo recorded the occupancy rate of ICU beds at 79.17% on Tuesday (18). Regarding the occupancy rate of beds in the ward, the occupancy rate is 69.87%. The total number of beds corresponds to 623 units, being 384 in the ICU and 239 in the ward. The total occupancy of beds is 75.60%.

Other states and capitals have also seen their occupancy rates for Covid ICU beds increase as a result of the spread of the Ômicron variant and, although they are not at such high levels, health authorities are concerned.
The State of Rio de Janeiro had the territory classified under the so-called “yellow flag”, of low risk for Covid-19, according to the 64th edition of the Covid-19 Risk Map, released on Friday (14) by the Secretary of State. of health.

In the capital of Bahia, the percentage of beds occupied in adult ICUs is 64%, in pediatric ICUs, 60%. As for adult clinical beds, occupancy is 77% and pediatric beds 90%.
