The ruler located at the Água Bruta Pumping Station recorded, in January and February, a variable between 1.30 m and 1.80 m, however, with the rise in temperature and the dry climate of recent days, the situation has worsened and generates a state of alert regarding the water supply in the municipality of São Leopoldo. Semae has published daily the river level on social networks.
Semae’s general director, Geison Freitas, recalls that the autarchy has been systematically dialoguing with the population through awareness campaigns about the importance of the rational use of water in the period. However, if necessary, there will be stricter supervision with citizens regarding waste. “If there is no water in Rio dos Sinos, there is no way to deliver treated water to the taps. We are at a time when there is no room for waste. Dialogue is always the best way, but there are ways to notify users and, if necessary, we will do that”, he says.
Saving water is an attitude that benefits all citizens.
- When taking a shower, close the shower to soap up. Saving up to 60 liters of water.
- Wash the car with a bucket, not a hose. In 30 minutes, savings of 520 liters of water.
- Always turn off the faucet to wash dishes. 15 minutes with it on = 120 liters.
- Have a reservoir at home. It is essential for extreme situations.
The expectation for the summer is drought throughout Rio Grande do Sul. The lack of rainfall is due to the La Niña weather phenomenon.
