Today, in Brazil, 99% of existing companies are categorized as small and medium. These are also responsible for 27% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in addition to generating 62% of formal jobs. SMEs are highly representative of the national economy, but face major challenges in keeping their doors open.
According to the Demography of Companies and Entrepreneurship Statistics survey, carried out periodically by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), only 21.3% of companies founded in 2011 continued to operate in 2020.
In that same year, the survival rate of companies with five years of existence was 40.7%. Another aspect detected by the survey is that smaller companies, with a small number of employees, are less likely to survive.
Times of economic crises are a real challenge, an example of this was the pandemic caused by the Coronavirus. A survey carried out by the logistics company UPS, between the years 2021 and 2022, pointed out the four biggest challenges of SMEsin relation to the pandemic, being attracting customers (81%), reduced cash flow (75%), disruption of the supply chain (66%) and the increased need to offer new products and/or services (66%) .
But after all, how to avoid closing the doors?
According to Irene Silva, Irene Silva, CEO of Ellevo, a software development company, for a company to remain strong and become a market reference, it is necessary to focus on strategic planning, monitoring and adjusting the organization’s growth, products and services.
“To survive and grow in the market, small and medium-sized companies need to invest in management tools. These software provide full support to the professional, facilitating decision-making and defining the next actions. These tools bring numerous advantages, such as improving growth strategies in the market and also in everyday life, in addition to centralizing all company information in one place, avoiding loss of documents and data, rework and, consequently, money”, highlights Irene .
Invest in SaaS tools
Many of these tools allow you to extract performance indicators, important data to measure growth and point out investments, an important tool for small and medium-sized companies.
