Tampinha Legal, the largest socio-environmental program of an educational nature in Circular Economy in the plastic transformation industry in Latin America, has experienced significant growth in the last year. The program transferred more than R$2.5 million to charities until January 2023, approximately 50% more than the amount transferred in the same period of the previous year.
According to the manager of the SustenPlást Institute, Simara Souza, the significant increase is precisely due to the program’s mission. “By observing this growth, we can say that we are on the right path. Tampinha Legal aims to increase the levels of clarification regarding the proper destination of plastic waste and increasing 50% in one year is confirmation that we are succeeding ”, she says.
Currently, Tampinha Legal has 3,149 collection points spread across the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Alagoas, Pernambuco, Bahia, Goiás and the Federal District. “The increase in Tampinha Legal collection points is the result of the engagement of all segments of society. People understand that plastic is worth money because it is 100% recyclable. It is so simple and easy to positively impact the lives of so many families through Tampinha Legal that everyone wants to participate”, explains Simara Souza.
Tampinha Legal meets the requirements of ESG, Reverse Logistics and ODS (Sustainable Development Goals). With the resources obtained through the program, assistance entities can purchase medicines, food, equipment, animal feed and/or school materials, as well as pay for treatments and human and animal health examinations, improvements in their headquarters, among other actions.
The Cool Bottle Cap
Tampinha Legal is carried out by Instituto SustenPlást with the support of Movimento Plástico Transforma. Through actions that modify mass behavior, it increases the levels of clarification regarding the plastic material and its proper destination, promoting the circular economy to take place in practice.
All segments of society are invited to collect plastic lids and send them to charitable entities registered with Tampinha Legal, which seeks the best market valuation for the material. The amounts obtained are allocated in full to the participating assistance entities without apportionment of material or transfers of values. The program does not receive commissions and/or gratuities on the collected material. In 2022, it surpassed BRL 2.5 million, 100% destined for participating assistance entities.
Recently, at Núcleo Porto Alegre/RS, it launched Copinho Legal which, following the model of Tampinha Legal, allocates the resources obtained from the sale of plastic disposables (cups, plates and cutlery) to participating charities. Tampinha Legal operates in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Alagoas, Pernambuco, Goiás, the Federal District and Bahia.
In Porto Alegre, Tampinha Legal has the strategic support of the Fundação Gaúcha dos Bancos Sociais da FIERGS. In addition to the app (Android and iOS) and website (tampinhalegal.com.br), where you can find various information such as the nearest collection points, assistance entities and participating companies, etc.
