The improvement in the level of the Gravataí River, based on the measures articulated by the Municipality of Gravataí together with Corsan, gives impetus, even if temporarily, to the supply of the population and returns to the river the capacity to sustain the delicate ecosystem of the region, punished by yet another drought.
The volume of water available at the company’s collection points in Gravataí has increased steadily in recent weeks, and measurements – which reached zero in early January – exceeded one meter this week.
As the dredging in the six kilometers long DNOS Channel advances, the water from the Incra Dam, in Viamão, crosses the Banhado dos Pachecos and feeds the “lung of Gravataí” and, further ahead, meets the one meter high containment built in Bairro Mato Alto, in Gravataí.
These two combined actions ensure, on an emergency basis, that the river meets the city’s demand for water resources. “The measures implemented so far avoid the lack of water this summer, but we are demanding the state government and Corsan so that the supply issue is definitively resolved.
We will continue helping, with the Municipal Guard, with the Civil Defense, we will involve Granpal and the deputies of the region to change the way we look at Gravataí, we cannot forget the river in winter”, highlights the mayor of Gravataí, Luiz Zaffalon.
