Porto Alegre will gain a new address to create, think about and exhibit the art produced here in the state. Located on Avenida Alberto Bins, between the Historic center and the so-called Fourth District, Cultural Zone will open its doors in March.
Cultural Zone
With more than five hundred square meters, the two-story building is undergoing renovations. On the ground floor, there will be space for the presentation of shows with a capacity for 120 spectators, a bar, an accessible bathroom and a storage room. The upper floor will have a lobby, dressing rooms, two large rehearsal rooms, classes and meetings, and restrooms for the public and artists.
The intense program will offer theatrical plays (always with an open bar), performances, pocket shows, events, courses and workshops. The proposal is to provide the city with a unique place for conviviality and artistic experience in a multiple cultural space with creative and pedagogical projects that articulate social dialogues.
Financed without sponsorship and only with private resources, Zona Cultural was created and will be managed by a network of artists from Rio Grande do Sul, which includes Sandra Possani, Carlos Mödinger, Patrícia Fagundes, Iassanã Martins, Diego Nardi, Juliana Kersting, Rodrigo Shalako, Heinz Limaverde, Mirna Spritzer, Batista Freire, André Varela and Roberta Alfaya.
“The city needs spaces and times for art and conviviality, for creation, encounters, cultural pleasure. A cultural space invented from the dream shared by artists is an immense adventure, a political desire, a loving project that celebrates the possibilities of art, a bet on what we can be and do, together”, explains director Patrícia Fagundes, who is also at the head of one of the most awarded theater groups in Rio Grande do Sul, Cia. Rustic.
