This Wednesday (1st), the Municipal Zoo of Canoas (MiniZoo) will be officially reopened for public visitation. After almost six months closed due to the storm in August last year, the place had to undergo a major renovation. More than R$800,000 was needed, raised from the Municipal Environment Council.
The Secretary for the Environment, Paulo Ritter, highlighted the importance of the location for environmental education policies. “The MiniZoo is a space very dear to all people from Canoa. We are very proud of the great work carried out in environmental education and rehabilitation of wild animals. We look forward to this special moment, which is the return of public visitation”.
eager for visitors
According to the biologist and environmental educator at the Municipal Zoo, Renata Gautier, the technical team is looking forward to the return of the public. “We created a lot of expectations regarding the normalization of visitation, so that we can continue with the environmental education work. The Zoo is an important space where people can have close contact with native species for free, creating an environmental conscience”.
All 115 animals, from 40 different species, that make up the herd, can be revisited. It is important to remember that even during the period in which the Zoo remained closed, the work of rehabilitation of wild animals did not stop. The MiniZoo team ended 2022 with 1,296 animals received and 389 rehabilitated and returned to nature.
